What is MyCam

MyCam is a simple webcam program that hooks directly into your webcam and lets you take snapshots and record video.

This program is a simple little package that downloads quickly and runs easily. In order to run the program, download the setup file and execute it. The installation instructions will ask you to install other third party applications, such as a diagnostic tool and other programs, so just skip past those if you want to avoid them. Once the setup is finished, make sure the "launch program" box is checked in order to run it.

The program itself is rather basic - it consists of a single small dialogue box with a few buttons across the top. The button icons are self-explanatory: they allow you to take a picture, record video, and open an options menu. The options menu has two tabs. The snapshot tab lets you change whether you save the file as a jpeg or bitmap. For the video tab, you can change the video quality and the framerate options. The device menu button will bring up your webcam, and those options will most likely depend on the hardware you are using to record.

Of course, one downside to using such a simple program is that you cannot do much else with it besides take snapshots, record, and stop. It does not, for example, include advanced features such as motion capture that are included in other software programs. When you record a video or snapshot, the image will appear on the ribbon at the bottom of the program.

MyCam is freeware, so you are allowed to distribute and use the program freely. If you have suggestions or need technical support, contact the software developers at e2eSoft. It requires Windows 2000 or later, an Intel processor, 128MB of RAM, and 10MB of disk space.
